Practice isn't one-size-fits-all. Every session runs as one of four exercise types — a Quick Quiz for fast recall, Problem Solving for method, Explain It for understanding in their own words, and Flashcards for memory — plus learning games that make practice feel like play, and timed exams that end with a full memo. All AI-generated and adaptive to your child's grade and curriculum.
Every day starts with the essentials, with room to go further and to test exam-readiness.
The compulsory subjects you set, one required each day, rotating through your selection (e.g. English → Maths → Afrikaans). Completing the daily minimum earns merits. Languages run as a story-based session; Maths as an adaptive session that adjusts to your child's level as they go.
Extra practice in any other subject and topic the learner chooses — perfect for shoring up a weak area or getting ahead. It still counts towards study time and rewards.
Timed papers that recreate the real exam experience, ending with a full memo — the questions with the correct answers — so your child sees exactly where they went wrong.
Starting a new topic, your child isn't thrown straight into questions. CAPSTutor gives a short, plain-language explanation with a worked example first — so they understand the idea before they're tested on it. Then the practice begins.
For daily and additional practice, the learner picks a format. The core four are adaptive — they adjust to your child's level — and mark on meaning, with credit for close answers. Beyond these there are also learning games and timed exam papers (detailed just below).
Fast multiple-choice questions. Best for quick recall and covering ground quickly.
Step-by-step challenges that build reasoning and method, not just the final answer.
Open questions answered in the learner's own words — marked on understanding, not exact wording.
Rapid-fire memory practice for facts, definitions and vocabulary — little and often.
Rapid Fire, Quiz Quest, Odd One Out and more — real practice that feels like play. See below.
Timed, full-length papers in the real exam style, auto-marked with a full memo. See below.
Real practice, dressed up as a game — to hold the attention of a child raised on screens. Same curriculum, same marking; more fun getting there.
Beat the clock — as many correct as possible before time runs out.
Quick calls on whether a statement holds up.
Work through a themed run of questions to reach the end.
Spot the item that doesn't belong with the rest.
A surprise mix of question types, one box at a time.
Pair terms with their meanings, answers or examples.
Set the exam date and CAPSTutor builds a day-by-day revision plan from now until the exam — automatically prioritising the topics your child most needs to revise.
A countdown and a coverage bar show how many topics are revised and whether they're on track. For younger learners a parent sets the plan; from Grade 8 the learner takes the wheel, while you keep full visibility.
Timed, full-length practice papers in the real exam style, auto-marked, with a breakdown of exactly which topics lost marks.
and the results shape what to revise next. Practise, review, improve — until they're ready.
The number of questions scales with the grade, and each exercise picks a random count in that range for variety.
Never lose your place. Every exercise saves after each question — if your child leaves or the connection drops, a Resume banner picks up exactly where they stopped, same questions and count.
The learner answers everything, then sees their score and a full memo. Marking is generous on wording but strict on substance, and results are stored so you can track exam readiness over time. Available papers depend on the curriculum:
Custom papers let a learner practise on assessments that closely resemble their own class. They're built from real question papers (sourced on request or from a specific school) and are added by the CAPSTutor administrator only — not uploaded by parents. Once a paper is added for a grade and subject, learners see a green Custom option under Exams. It uses the paper's actual questions first, then adds new questions in the same style, topics and difficulty — so it's authentic past-paper practice and unlimited revision. Where a memo was supplied, it's used to mark accurately.
Each paper is prepared by hand, so requests are prioritised by genuine need and demand. To request a paper for a grade, subject or school, contact info@cmnconsulting.co.za.
